Patrick Herron's first book, The American Godwar Complex, is now available! from BlazeVOX. Plus, Herron's forthcoming online journal (co-edited with his patrick in crime, Lester), Close Quarterly, is very soon to be launched.

Here's what they do say about CQ:

"Close Quarterly is an online journal of poetry that enjoys and suffers from the paradoxes of self, life, and language. Contributing authors will be required to submit 1-10 pieces of poetry and/or web art and/or other forms of writing or art from the author or authors, depending upon the length of the material. Each author will be solicited for publication; unsolicited submissions are accepted but likely neglected. The author has the option of either publishing anonymously in Close Quarterly, or, here's the hook - the author is responsible for creating a pseudonym and fake bio. Sorry, *no* real names. The name of the author or authors is a confidential piece of information shared only between the writer and editor. This publication is for *content*, not for self-marketing. There are plenty of other journals out there for that opportunity; in fact, every other journal I can think of offers that very opportunity. Each issue of Close Quarterly will have only one author or one body of work by multiple authors. Each issue will therefore be focused. Close Quarterly may appear to have a theme each issue, and that theme will be devised out of the content submitted, either by the author or by the editor. So it will be delivered and archived and subtitled accordingly. Each issue should seem somehow whole (unless of course your goal is fracture)."

Conpubelations Patrick!

Ha ha hurrah, that's lit in the nows tonight.

No poem as beautiful as the wild ludic poem orangutan.

Today, only an estimated 15,000 - 25,000 orangutans survive in the wild, and experts predict possible extinction for the species by 2011.

Firstly, let's sign this petition to rouse the conscience or at least scare the prices of major retailers Sears, Target, Toys "R" Us and Wal-Mart.

No poem or painting as beautiful as the wild ludic orangutan.

Secondly, let's suggest to any of those we know shopping for a crib, to please look for the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification.

No poem or painting or sculpture as beautiful as the wild ludic orangutan.

Thirdly, I think consumers at these stores deserve to know that they are quite likely to unwittingly bear responsibility for the extinction of the orangutan. Vocal consumer action could make a difference for the orangutans. I'm thinking of the national publicity gained when several people protested Walmart's easter soldiers--remember that?

If even one wing of the Louvre burned! Imagine the outrage, uproar and mourning!

Poet Michael Brownstein tells us in WORLD ON FIRE that this is the Time of the Motherfuckers and these are The End Times. Who can accurately say that's not the Truth from the perspective of the orangutan and many species and peoples?

How how that's it in the nows for to life.

the moan behind the cursor

This blogger needs to update her "all codes lead to roam" and put up some photos from her trip to the big ape's fill and just show up more often for word. A few things she's done today, for e.g., instead of showing up on rhyme for whirr:

1: Stand in line at the Department of Finance.
2: Purchase blender.
3. Go to café.
4: Grade WRT205 Annotated Bibliographies.
5. Not grade WRT205 Annotated Bibliographies, with self-delusion that will begin again soon.
6. Very soon.
7. Very soon.
8. Spoon.
9. Have a coffee.
10. Not grade WRT205 Annotated Bibliographies, no self-delusion that will begin again anytime soon.
11. Read Eleni Sikelianos's The Monster Lives of Girls and Boys.
12. Ahh, that's better.
13. The experience of life as experience defined by something other than work & progress too unfamiliar. Go to Y.
14. Stand on a machine and vigorously not walk for a 30 minutes that will never have back.
15. Followed by a stubborn sitting in broken sauna--
16. Wishing for the heat and sand and land and and of the pre-developed Florida panhandle
17. Pondering that yonder in a lukewarm wooden box, big like a friggin' mausoleum--that's another irretrievable 30 minutes.
18. Walk through a swinging door too quickly.
19. Hit a small child with door.
20. Apologize.
21. Though really, the mother should have carried him in there. Or something. Seriously. It's not my fault!
22. Speed away in mini-van.
23. Go to co-op for groceries.
24. Make pea-soup and soda bread.
25. From scratch.
26. OK, the peas were frozen.
27. Pick up John from SU.
28. Have dinner with John.
28. Candles.
29. They're nice.
30. Though they drip on the table.
